Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

Well, you all know it has come to that time of year again when the trees lose their leaves, it starts to get colder, and then it begins to snow. And all of us ladies know how inportant it is to keep our skin looking and feeling it's very best. I've always been very particular about the products I use on my skin, after all I am very sensitive to most of the products that are out on the market now a days. This year, it being ever so colder and my skin feeling ever so dryer, I decided to try something new. These products I've heard many a good thing about from all the wonderful ladies on the fedora lounge.

So, I thought I would give them a try...

These products are by Boots which is a company that was established in 1849. They carry many different products like lip balms, cold creams, body lotions, and body wash. I was even excited about the glamorous retro packaging. They truely are amazing products that keep your skin looking and feeling amazing all day long with a vintage feel.

Outfit of the Day!

So even thought I wore this dress yesterday, I thought I would still take the time and share it with all of you. I was orginally going to share it with everyone yesterday but it got too late and it was time for me to get some beauty sleep before I knew it.

The dress of the day is actually a recent buy that I just hadn't had a chance to wear yet. So, that left the perfect opportunity to share it with everyone first hand. It is a 1940's purple evening dress that was purchased from my favorite place...Ebay! I paired it with vintage purple clip-on earrings and 40's/50's gray pumps that I purchased from a good friend, MaryDeluxe.

I also wanted to take the time to share another recent purchase. I'm sure those of you who are following me on Twitter, know that I went to Atomic Warehouse this weekend. While I was there, a very gorgeous piece of furniture called out to me. It was a large Art Deco vanity, and I couldn't help but buy it.

Vintage Buys

Since I haven't written anything in some time. I thought I would start out with a shout out to :
Antique Marketplace of Lemoyne, LLC.
415 Bosler Avenue
Lemoyne, Pa 17043
(717) 761-2865

I had spent some time there these past few weekends in search of a new compact and a 40's ladies watch. But my urges to buy almost everything took over and I kind of went crazy.

I was actually taken there by someone very dear to my heart a couple of years back. They knew my love for all things vintage and thought it would be a great place to show me since I was running out of opions in Harrisburg, Pa. The Antique Marketplace is a really good place to go to shop for anything and everything vintage at a stealof a price. They carry clothes, furniture, cookware, etc. just everything.

I ended up buying a 40's salmon pink slip $18, and the October 21, 1941 issue of Look magazine $5.( sorry no pictures) I then ended up buying a set of five 30's/40's teal jewelry bags for $5, three 30's/40's white lingerie bags for $5, and a large 40's red compact for $12. ( the only thing wrong with the compact was the mirror was bad and has to be replaced. But it was never used.)

So if you're ever in the area...please go there and check them out!

P.s. Sorry my pictures start to get cut off on the right side. But the other white lingerie bag is the smallest of the 3.

Sunrise...

So today it felt like I was waking up at sunrise even thought it was only 9am. I usually wake up earlier but it was a saturday. So, who does that? Well, I do! Atleast for today, since it was a saturday and I wanted to go to Saturday's Market.

Saturday's Market is a giant market place in Middletown, Pa where a ton of vendors carry antique, vintage, new items, and food. There are 3-4 sections inside plus multiple tents outside. I was in heaven when my boyfriend and I finally arrived there. It has been years since the last time I was there and I hadn't realized how many more vintage things they had started carrying. There was so much to look at, that it was closing before we even had time to look at all the things that were outside in the tents.

While we were there, I did have a chance to pick up 2 magazine ads from the 40's. A song hits magazine from 1941 that showcased one of my favorite movies, Moon Over Miami starring Betty Grable. And 2 pairs of vintage clip-on earrings.

Sweaters, sweaters, sweaters...

As most of you know, it has been starting to get colder, and most of us have been getting ready for the winter to arrive and bring all that lovely snow. So, I started cleaning out my closet. Basically just putting my summer outfits away and moving all my winter clothing to my closet.

When I realized, out of all my winter dresses, coats, pants, shoes, etc. that I only have one lonely vintage sweater. How sad! So, even though I've been completely broke (saving for a car). I decided to splurge a little and buy some new sweaters to help me start moving into the winter season.

Luau Party!!!

So, earlier around 3:30pm my mother calls me. I answer the phone to her yelling about something about her dogs to her boyfriend. I say 'hello' , and proceed to ask her what's going on. Before I am able to finish my sentence, she's off rambling about some party she is have around 6pm.

After sometime I reach the conculsion that she is throwing an end of summer Luau party for her and all her friends. It would be taking place at her work at 6pm-11pm. There would be games, contests, an open bar, and free food. And I had to be there.

My boyfriend and I arrived there around 6pm. As we walked in, we went through a big blow-up luau thing with fake flowers hanging down from the ceiling by strings. Everything in the main hall was tropical themed. Even the sign telling us to go up the stairs was decorated. So, we walked up the stairs to be greeted by my mother's friend Caitlyn, whom was passing out leis.

We came into the main room where all the food was displayed along the windows. Off to the right, there was a DJ playing tropical music....And we grabbed some food and Pina Coladas, and headed outside.

Once outside on the deck, you could see the pool infront of you, a tiki bar to the left of you, and a tent with tables and chairs to the right of you.

As the night went on, they lit the tiki torches and started playing slower non-tropical music. And my boyfriend asked me to dance!

It ended at 11pm, and we all went home! But first a picture of my outfit from the evening.

Ok, so apparently I'm really bad at taking pictures when it comes to events. I tend to forget that I actually have a camera on me. So, I'm very sorry for the lack of pictures.

What's In A Name???

Over the Holiday weekend, I had a number of people come up to me and ask about my name. It took me aback at first. After all, this was a question I had never received before. So, I thought I would save myself the trouble and explain it once...on here.

Like most of us, the Bombshells of Hollywood had their names changed. They were never named anything like Phyllis, Edith, or Bertha. If they were, you would never know it. The serious bombshells of the Golden era took on names with a va-va-voom, breathy alliterations that had starlet potential. Names that had marquee appeal.

Camille Javal Bardot became Brigitte Bardot!

I, myself even choose to do so after my first photo shoot. After all, if I was going to keep up the modeling, I very well couldn't use my real name. And, since neither parent wanted to use my father's long Spanish last name, nor my mother's Italian last name. I was given a very boring American name.

Lolita Dolores Martinez Asunsolo Lopez Negrette became Dolores Del Rio!

I then picked Lola. It was a short, breathy alliteration of my first name. One in which my family and friends used for short and half-ly to describe my love for vintage.

Margarita Carmen Cansino became Rita Hayworth!

As for GlamourDoll, it was given to me. Everyone from my high school didn't really understand the whole vintage thing. The ones that didn't know my name just started calling me, GlamourDoll. After sometime, it just stuck!

Constance Francis Ockleman became Veronica Lake!

LaShea came about a year ago when I did some research on my family. I never really understood where all the different names came from or why there were so many last name changes. Well, it turned out that LaShea (pronounced La-Shay) was my great great grandmother's maiden name, on my mother's side.

Julia Jean Mildred Frances Turner became Lana Turner!

Retro Inspired Nailpolish

So, today I wanted to share my *new* favorite nailpolish. I had been using OPI's Red Red Rhine for my vintage inspired look for my nails. But sadly, it ran out and I haven't been able to find it anywhere. :(

I've recently found OPI's Quater of a Cent-Cherry, which is from their 25th Anniversary Collection. It's a matte rich cherry red color that's always a classic. Perfect for that pinup look, or if you're just looking for that classic 40's look.

40's nails

Here's a picture of the color on my freshly manicured hands!

I'm sure you can agree with me that the color is to die 4!!! Welp, I'm off, and I hope you all enjoyed!

The Classiest Lady Contest...

So, lastnight was the Classiest Lady Contest at the club Privado. The winner would receive $400 and the second runner up would receive $100. I decided to go and give it a try figuring because of all the rain I might have a really good chance of winning. My chap and I were the first ones there, not really sure when the contest was to start. I signed up, my number was 66. At this point I was feeling really good about myself considering I knew the judges, and I knew most of the people working there would be voting for me.
outfit 8.28.09
Well, classy to me means vintage. So, I dressed in my grandmother's black wiggle dress she bought in 1956. I paired it with black leather strappy shoes, a 40's black satin clutch purse, black leather gloves, and her black fur stole.
hair n makeup 8.28.09
I decided to keep my makeup and hair rather simple since I knew I would be competing against rahter modern looking girls.

As the night went on, I started seeing more and more girls that were wearing really short dresses with their boobs basically hanging out. I was starting to get worried, after all I thought this was to be the classiest lady contest not the slutiest.

After some time the judges came around to all the ladies, and asked us all a series of questions. The questions they asked me were:

What is your definition of a diva?
If you had an unlimited amount of money, Where would you go shopping?
What is your favorite kind of hot pocket?

Crazy ones, huh? Well, I answered them the best I could. And when they finally called to top five girls names. I was the fourth to be called up on the stage. I was freaking out at this point. I really hadn't expect that .

In the long run, I didn't win the second or first place prize. Instead the girl in the short black dress that kept bending over for her panties to show, won the contest. ;(
